Come Stuff-A-Bus with Whole Foods Market and Ride-On On Wednesday May 14th, 2008, Manna Food Center, in partnership with Whole Foods Markets and Ride On Montgomery County Transit will hold a Stuff-A-Bus event at the Whole Foods Markets locations in Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Silver Spring. On this day, Whole Foods Markets will also hold a 5% day with 5% of sales from the four Whole Foods Markets being donated to Manna. The goal of this event is for shoppers to fill Ride On busses with non-perishable food.
Manna is interested in hearing from community members who are interested in volunteering for one or more volunteer shifts. Volunteers can help fill the bus with food, be a celebrity bagger in a Whole Foods store, and staff an information table. Individuals as well as groups of all ages are encouraged to volunteer. This is a great way to get SSL hours for your teenager. We have shifts available from 8 am until 10 pm. For more information, or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Tim at tim.lanigan@mannafood.org or 301-424-1130.
With appreciation for some recent food drives: Temple Emanuel and Women Who Care Ministries have both recently held amazing food drives.

Smart Sacks Smart Sacks is Manna's innovative program to fight childhood hunger. Each Friday, Smart Sacks provides hungry elementary school students in Montgomery County with 10-12 nutritious and kid-friendly foods for the weekend in backpacks handed to them at their local school. On Monday the backpacks are returned and refilled for the next weekend. Corporations partner with a school to provide the volunteer labor to fill and deliver the backpacks each week. Current Smart Sacks partner organizations include the Carl M. Freeman Companies, United Health Care, Sodexho, White Flint Storage/Storage Village, Calvert Group, EU Services, Choice Hotels, Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital, and MCT Federal Credit Union. Call 301-424-1130 to learn how your company can partner with a local school to fight hunger.
Special thanks to Whole Foods Markets for every month donating 1,200 shelf-stable single-serve containers of milk for Smart Sacks. Their generosity ensures that the children in Smart Sacks have milk to drink nourish their growing minds and bodies.
What donations will help us fill our Smart Sacks? Financial gifts are great, but we can also use kid-friendly food donations.
